May You Find Your Way Home
For years I kept saying 'I want to go home.' I moved, I searched, I chased — until life quieted me enough to hear it: I didn't need to go home. I needed to come home.
For years, I used to say the same thing over and over again — "I want to go home."
At first, I thought I was looking for a place.
So, I moved.
Then I thought I meant a person.
So, I searched for relationships that felt like "home."
Then I looked for it in my career, my friendships, and in everything around me.
It wasn't until life completely changed that I learned what may be the most important lesson of my life so far.
I didn't need to go home.
I needed to come home.
Welcome, friends. I'm so grateful you're here and that you've chosen to spend a few moments reading my Notes from Home.
In 2019, life took an unexpected turn for me as it often does (more about that later), and as it did for many of us in the following years, and I learned something. In a way, I was forced to recognize that all the people, places, and things I had been chasing had become background noise. So loud, in fact, that I could barely hear the quiet voice inside me trying to gently guide me home. I reflected on times in my life where I was searching for home, and realized that at those points in my life, I did some inside work and discovered that when I truly listened to myself and my intuition instead of the background noise, home had been waiting for me all along.
For me, it meant quieting all of the voices telling me who I was supposed to be.
The perfect employee.
The perfect partner.
The person who kept pushing through exhaustion.
Instead, I began listening to something much quieter.
My own body.
I've come to believe our bodies have a remarkable way of guiding us. In trusting and listening to our intuition, our bodies tell us when something isn't for us. When we honor ourselves enough to listen, that internal magic appears outside as well.
I can't tell you the number of times I did what I thought I was supposed to do, when my body was telling me no. How many times I did not listen to my body when it told me to rest, or slow down, and even with the people that I surrounded myself with when my intuition said that they weren't for me. I wasn't honoring myself — and as a result, I was left feeling like I was constantly swimming against the current.
The moment I became rooted, grounded, and willing to listen was the moment my life began to feel different.
Not because everything around me changed overnight.
Because I did.
And little by little, life began to reflect that change.
Not because I had found a new place.
Because I had finally found myself.
Instead of constantly pushing, hustling, and grinding, I slowly began to recognize a different way of living — one that felt calmer, gentler, and more like home.
My story, like most, is layered and complicated, and I plan to share more as we get to know each other. I have done a lot of work through certifications and training, but the most important lessons I've learned were from life, illness, losses, and I am grateful for each one. They all provided me with the opportunity to listen to my body, and to rise and rebuild in a way that was more aligned with my purpose and soul.
If you've ever caught yourself saying, "I want to go home," I hope you'll pause before searching for another place, another job, or another person. Maybe…just maybe… home has been quietly waiting for you all along. And if that's true, perhaps the journey you've been searching for isn't about finding somewhere else to belong.
Perhaps it's about remembering that you already do.
With gratitude from this home to yours.
Until next Sunday…
May you find your way home.
